The hepatoprotective activity of ethanolic extract of fruits of Alstonia scholaris was evaluated by carbon tetrachloride (CCL4) - induced hepatoto xicity in rats. The toxicant CCL4 was used to induce hepatotoxicity at a dose of 2 ml/kg as 1:1 mixture with olive oil. The ethanolic extract of fruits of Alstonia scholaris was administered in the dose of 150 and 300 mg/kg/day orally for 5 days. Silymarin (50 mg/kg) was used as standard drug. The hepatoprotective effect of th e ethanolic extract was evaluated by the assessment of biochemical parameters such as SGOT, SGPT, SALKP , total bilirubin and histopathological studies of the liver. Treatment of animals with the ethanolic extract significantly reduced the liver damage and the symptoms of liver injury by restoration of architecture of liver as indicated by lower levels of serum bilirubin as compared with the normal and silymari n treated groups. Keywords

A simple, rapid, sensitive and precise High Performance Liquid Chromatographic (HPLC) method has been developed for the estimation of gatifloxacin in its pharmaceutical dosage forms. In this method RP - C 18 column (150mmx4.6mm I.D., 5 μm particle size) with mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile and 0.05M phosphate buffer in the ratio of 25:75 v/v in isocratic mode was used. The detection wavelength is 293nm and the flow rate is 0.8ml/min. Ciprofloxacin is used as internal standard. The linearity was fo und to be in the range of 0.1 to 10 μg/ml and shows a correlation coefficient of 0.9999. The intra - and inter - day variation was found to be less than 1.2% showing high precision of the assay method. The mean percent recovery of the drug from the solution c ontaining 4 μg/ml was 100.5 ± 2.06 indicating high accuracy of the proposed method. Hence, this method is simple, fast, specific, accurate, precise and less time consuming for the estimation of gatifloxacin in pharmaceutical dosage forms. Keywords

A simple, rapid, sensitive and precise high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method has been developed for the estimation of mycophenolate mofetil in bulk and tablet dosage form. In this method RP-C18 column (250mmx4.6mm I.D., 5im particle size) with mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile and 0.03M phosphate buffer in the ratio of 60:40 v/v in isocratic mode was used. The detection wavelength is 254 nm and the flow rate is 0.8 ml/min. In the range of 20-120μg/ml, the linearity of mycophenolate mofetil shows a correlation coefficient of 0.9995. The proposed method was validated by determining sensitivity, accuracy, precision and system suitability parameters. The mobile phase selected for the method is simple, fast, accurate and precise and hence can be applied for routine quality control analysis of mycophenolate mofetil in bulk and its tablet dosage form. Keywords
